Dunaújváros is a small industrial centre situated on the right bank side of Danube about 70 kilometers far from Budapest that is the capital city of Hungary. The town and surroundings have been inhabited since ancient times due to the favourable natural and geographical features. There was a military fortress in the Roman times called Intercisa on the very spot where the town is presently situated. Several tribes and peoples settled down here between the great migration and the 17th century.

Findings of excavations demonstrate that people of ancient times might have lived here on high standard. One part of the rich findings can be seen in the site of excavation which is one of the best excavated settlements of the Roman Empire, while the rest is exhibited in the "Intercisa Museum".
